Enrique decided during Sequoia’s Term 1 to try taking an online class here at OnlineHS – Creative Writing. He also signed up for OnlineHS Guided study and attended class most every day.
It turns out that Enrique is indeed a very creative and driven student. Not only did he create some beautiful poetry, he researched Walt Whitman to produce a mock interview with the “Dead Poet” and he published his memoir. In addition, he finished the course in record time with above average grades.
He began submitting work September 28th and his final assignment was submitted Oct 15th. Here’s an example of his poetry:
WHEN I WAS A BOY
I would go home with grass stains on my jeans
I had no worries in LIFE
I wouldn’t ever think about the future
My family was together
I played basketball and football
I knew how to have fun
LIFE seemed so easy
I was always on the go
I had energy for days
There was no car
There was no having to get a job
I had money in my pocket that was handed to me not earned
I did not have anywhere close to as much knowledge as I do now about LIFE.
Enrique continues his learning online and has selected OnlineHS Government as his next class. He says, “I can’t believe how much I am learning. Everybody needs to take online classes!”
Update: January 14th, 2012- Enrique was recognized in a story in the Everett Herald titled “Overcoming obstacles: Enrique Gonzalez, senior”. READ MORE
