March 2014: Michael Alcayaga

March 2014: Michael Alcayaga

Congratulations, OnlineHS Student of the month, Michael Alcayaga! He does an outstanding job demonstrating interpretive and analytical skills in his Myth & Legends course. Currently, Michael is a sophomore at Cascade High School.

In his personal introduction to our online discussions, he wrote,

“I am taking this online class because it is tough for me to have a full schedule on campus. In August of 2013, I was diagnosed with Leukemia which makes it hard to be at school all the time because I have so many doctor appointments and hospital stays.”

In our Myth & Legends class, we examine mythical heroes and the real heroes in our daily lives. After reading the sagas of Hercules, Odysseus, Theseus, Michael wrote about his personal hero – his Dad.

“My dad is just an ordinary guy. By looking at him you would never know he is a hero. But to me, he is extraordinary, he doesn’t wear a cape, or have any special talents, but being who he is, is what makes him a hero in my eyes.”

Michael has already passed this class and continues to strive to improve his final grade. He mastered other OnlineHS courses and is a gifted online learner. That’s why he is OnlineHS Student of the Month!
