Kelsie is a great online learner. She sets goals for herself and accomplishes them – consistently attending her Online Guided Study class here at Sequoia to complete an assignment a day. While she might complain about the work, she loves learning about new ideas and reading a variety of literature. So far over the past year-and-a-half, she has completed English 201/202 and English 301 – earning 1.5 credits.
Currently she is studying American Literature in English 302. It is a challenge and she says, “Sometimes it makes my brain hurt!” Right now one of her favorites is The Raven. In her analysis she wrote, “As I read ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allen Poe, I learned a lot more than I would in a short story –reading poems, I read them 2 maybe 3 times to get the full understanding. Words can be tricky and the way poets express their feelings changes the whole thought and theme of the poem itself. I enjoy poetry a lot more than I do short stories or novels or even video’s because when I read poetry I learn different ways and words of how I can express my feels in a much shorter, down to point sort of way. When I write poetry I feel free, able to express however I want to, with whatever words I want to. Poetry relaxes me, not only when I write it, but also when I read it.”
By the end of this semester, she hopes to also complete English 401. She has her eyes on graduating early next Fall semester. Way to go, Kelsie!
