Everett Public Schools’ Student Achievement Award was presented to Sequoia High School Principal Kelly Shepherd for her use of innovative strategies to build trusting relationships with the most vulnerable students.
In addition to Sequoia High School, Kelly is also the administrator and principal overseeing the district’s virtual learning program (OnlineHS) and Parent Partnership (PortGardner).
Kelly Shepherd is driven to help students succeed–she never gives up. She uses innovative strategies to build trusting relationships with the most vulnerable students and creates a sense of hope for them.
Kelly cultivates a kid-focused instructional team that breaks down barriers, finds what inspires each student and develops a plan with options to help them achieve.
She makes frequent home visits and can be found at the administrative center on summer evenings meeting with teachers to support students.
Students find her ‘open door’ availability inclusive, and she has helped hundreds of students go from not believing graduation could be a reality to seeing them proudly earn their diplomas.
