April 2013: Courtney McGrath

Congratulations to Courtney McGrath, Lifetime Fitness student, our April Student of the Month.

Courtney is a 9th grader at CHS who completes thoughtful and consistent work. She loves to bicycle, horseback ride, and spend time with her family, friends and two puppies. “

This class allows me to design my own exercise program to fit my health needs and limitations. I am gaining confidence in myself as I get stronger and have more endurance.”

She is almost finished with 8 weeks of following her plan, monitoring her progress towards her goal of improving strength and flexibility.

Courtney has many qualities that make her a successful online student. She is an effective communicator who articulates questions. She works consistently, even when she is busy, to stay on track and maximize learning.

“Although there are specific deadlines to meet, I enjoy taking an online course because it allows me the flexibility to work on my assignments at my own pace and on my own time. Having the online course built into my daily school schedule allows me to work on assignments for the online course as well as my other high school classes.”

As a busy student, Courtney has to masterfully schedule in time to exercise. But she sees the importance of it in her life.

“My barrier to physical fitness also is not having enough time due to homework and my horseback riding. It’s tough to get an hour in of exercise, especially away from home at the gym. A few ways that I have found to overcome lack of time for physical fitness is breaking up my exercise routines and do 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening.”

Courtney’s thoughtful reflection on activity logs show that she is well on her way to lifetime fitness.

“Being fit is keeping a healthy mind, body, and soul through nutrition and exercise. Society benefits from being fit by reducing healthcare costs, and being able to work and live longer. Fit people make for more productive members of society.”

Congratulations, Courtney! Your fitness skills and study habits will serve you well as a productive member of society!
